(Image: https://www.freepixels.com/class=)When Carter and the rest of the development staff looked at the ~$137 purchase history of a man who really, really wanted to find the perfect fur pattern for his in-game pet, they realized they had essentially created a slot machine that impulsive players would gamble away significant amounts of money on. While many studios would consider this a big win, Digital Extremes made the decision that this kind of activity wasn't healthy for the playerbase in the long run. As Carter explained, it wasn't long before the 'gambling fur randomizer' was removed from the game entir

The Neuroptics and Systems aren’t quite as simple. Harrow’s Neuroptics are obtained from Pago in the Kuva Fortress and only drop on Rotation C of the spy mission. This means that all three vaults of the mission must be opened without a single failure to have a chance at acquiring Harrow’s Neuropt

Harrow’s origins are explained during the Chains of Harrow quest. While we’ll try to keep spoilers to a minimum, be aware that the next bit will definitely reveal some backstory that newcomers might want to skip to prevent spoiling the surpr

In an interview belonging to the Noclip documentary series by Daniel O'Dwyer, Digital Extremes Studio Manager Sheldon Carter detailed an unexpected result that occurred when the developer introduced a small microtransaction for Kubrows, an in-game virtual pet. The studio had implemented what Carter defines as a „slot machine lever“ that allowed gamers - for the price of about $0.67 - to randomize the fur pattern and fur color of their pet Kubrow. While it was only a cosmetic feature, the idea of putting something so random behind a paygate drew the ire of many of the game's fans. Still, Digital Extremes went forward with the idea - until one fan spent well over $100 on it almost immediat

The open beta date for Warframe could not have come at a greater time, on the heels of the announcement that Mass Effect 3 will not be getting any additional multiplayer content . Why does that matter? The simplest way to describe what Warframe is to say it's what Mass Effect co-op multiplayer should have been. It offers the gameplay elements of combat and environmental traversal better, and it looks gorgeous through

While warframe updates|https://warframebase.com/ still has microtransactions, the game has been widely praised for keeping things in balance: the online environment certainly isn't 'pay to win', and purchases within the game don't come remotely as close to gambling as the infamous slot machine lever incident mentioned above. Now some 5 years after its initial release, Warframe is still getting updates from the developers as the community continues to dedicate plenty of hours into the space-based shoo

Yes. Right now the player is faced with a faction called the Grineer, who's largely the first fraction you encounter in the game. So, a new player is familiar with them. In the daytime, new players will be very comfortable, learning things about the world. But at nighttime, the Eidolon comes out and that is an enemy that can only be encountered by someone that has the gear and the progression in the game to do so. We're talking hours into the game to unlock different quests to give them access to the Tenno, your operator, so that's a progression lock, more or less. This „kaiju“ we call it, can't be countered by someone who hasn't progressed far enough. So it's an end game version of nighttime.

Unfortunately, the same praise can’t be said about the Kronen Prime. The standard Kronen wasn’t anywhere near being a top tier weapon to begin with, but the Primed version doesn’t do a whole lot to justify the need to immediately go out and create a build with it. A lot of the problem comes down to feeling underpowered, especially considering weapons such as Telos Boltace has better stats. Sure, Kronen is slightly faster, but everything about it is weaker and less capable compared to Boltace, which is a massive disappointment. That’s not to say it’s bad by any means, as I personally enjoy Tonfa style weapons more than most, and its speed and status chance are still solid, but it’s hard to recommend a weapon such as this when it’s not only outclassed by numerous other weapons, but it isn’t even the best melee weapon in its own class.

We had a lever, basically, for all intents and purposes, and we saw, you know, a guy pull the lever like 200 times. And it’s just like, ‘oh my dear god, what have we done? We’ve created a slot machine.’ And so you know, it was a couple days I think it took us to take it out - a day, day and a half. That one is a big reg

Microtransactions have been an increasingly touchy subject for gamers in the last few years, especially since Star Wars Battlefront 2 found itself in the spotlight after DICE pushed consumers too far. Game developers have been hard-pressed to find innovative ways to increase revenue earned from titles, but today's story is something else entirely: the developer of Warframe removed a microtransaction because it proved too successful. While some studios purposefully target high-spending gamers (who hold the industry nickname of „whales“), one man's click-happy purchase binge changed the philosophy of the Warframe crew fore
