Dies ist eine alte Version des Dokuments!

Spending every night hammering out repeatable bounties on the moon takes no skill. Once you’ve reached your pinnacle level cap, there’s nothing left to do to prove you’re capable of taking on the Grandmaster Nightfall. The only thing standing in your way is a massive, arbitrary grind through repetitive, meaningless content. It doesn’t feel like you’re working towards anything - just a grind for grind’s sake.

I want to get all of my friends into Destiny. It’s an exceptional shooter when it's firing on all cylinders. But as long as the true Destiny experience is locked behind such a horrible new player experience and multiple paywalls, I’ll be farming for that sweet new gun on my lonesome.

The recommended power level for Grandmaster Nightfalls is 1370, but you can start attempting them at 1345. Getting from 1330 to 1345 requires Artifact Power, which in the most simplest terms just means earning experience and gaining levels. You get one level of Artifact Power for every ten levels you complete of the battle pass. Once you’ve reached Level 100 - the maximum level on the battle pass - you’ll be at 1340 power level (1330 gear level + 10 Artifact power).

An additional change Bungie announced is the reduced cost of changing the elemental affinity of Masterworked armor. If you want to change the element of your helmet from Arc to Void, it’ll only cost some Glimmer and an Upgrade Module. This alone is a great change, but veteran players like myself wonder if this is the Monkey’s Paw at work.

So how did we get to this point? Most community members have pointed to the Breach And Clear mod in Season of the Splicer, but I feel this slow descent into obsolescence started with the release of Shadowkeep. This expansion did two things:

At the power cap, you can only increase your power level by participating in pinnacle activities. These are typically more challenging and sometimes require teams of three to six players. If you’re very lucky, the climb from soft cap to hard cap can be done in a few weeks. If you manage to get a lot of repeated drops though, it could take more than a month.

Bungie has the perfect opportunity to fix these issues with the Void 3.0 rework that’s coming with The Witch Queen . Nightstalker is one of the Hunter’s best PvE subclasses, so this rework will either make or break Hunters for the foreseeable future. There’s a chance to revitalize the Hunter with some unique mechanics that set it apart from the other Void subclasses. But this is also a chance for Bungie to homogenize all of the classes even further with class-agnostic Fragments and buffs. For the sake of all Hunter mains, I hope Bungie opts for the former. Destiny has never followed the MMO holy trinity—tank, healer, and DPS—for balancing its classes. Bungie instead relied on flavor and minor mechanical differences to give each class an identity. Warlocks are space wizards that manipulate their abilities to gain unique benefits. It’s why they can consume grenades to gain buffs, convert Stasis grenades into ice turrets, or use their melee to activate a life steal effect. Titans are space marines that act as immovable objects. Instead of relying solely on space magic, Titans wield their fists and use more physical tools like barricades to stay alive.

Debuting in Year 3, Witherhoard is as bizarre a video game weapon as it is effective . It launches Taken blights that clear groups of enemies, does considerable tick damage to bosses, and allows the player to swap to other weapons while it damages to maximize

So there I was, stuck between using Golden Gun or switching to my Titan. I ended up using my Golden Gun Hunter in a stubborn attempt to prove that Hunters can still pump out great damage. We did not defeat the Templar that night.

Bungie has made it clear that they want buildcrafting to be the next pillar of Destiny 2 Collectibles’s core design. It’s why armor mods have become more and more important, and it's why the Light subclasses are getting reworked this year . On a fundamental level, I agree with Bungie’s vision. I’d love to play a version of Destiny where every player you meet has a unique build that kicks alien ass in its own way. But with the current state of armor mods, those builds are locked behind layers of RNG and hundreds of hours of grinding. To realize a version of Destiny where every Guardian is truly their own legend, it’s time we reduce mod bloat, not make it worse.

(Image: https://www.istockphoto.com/photos/class=)As a Hunter main, it’s been heartbreaking seeing this whole meta shift unfold. I’ve spent dozens of Masterwork materials and hundreds of hours making Hunter builds that excel in PvE and PvP . The worst part is that I’m in a small minority of players that can afford to make such builds. I own every Combat Style mod and have over 300 pieces of high-stat armor in my Vault. I can farm Nightfalls at any time to get Ascendant Shards. Very, very few players can say the same. Yet even a player like myself seriously struggles to make Hunters stand out from their Warlock and Titan contemporaries. I can’t imagine how casual players get by .
