I’ve no doubt that a number of talented developers worked on this game, but they’ll be paid for their work regardless of its success, so we should arguably just deny its existence or interact with it in a way that is keenly aware of the context in which it exists. Rowling will make money from this game, although she’s arguably got too much to spend in a single lifetime already, but supporting her means you are indirectly complicit in views she can share and reinforce using a platform that is almost untouchable. We could deplatform smaller figures for their bigotry, but she exists in another realm altogether. She’s like The Queen or John Cena, a larger than life figure who also happens to believe I shouldn’t exist.
There's simply not enough diversity when it comes to character creation in open-world platforms. From ethnicity to sexuality and gender, Hogwarts Legacy has an opportunity to offer genuine freedom for players to explore and create their own authentic charact
However, where The Elder Scrolls games cannot be faulted is their ability to draw the player into their worlds with immense world-building and lore. There is never a shortage of history books and references to past titles to read up on and characters to interact with. Fans of RPGs with vast worlds should dive into any of The Elder Scrolls games, but Skyrim is the most accessi
Shin Megami Tensei V is expected to deliver more of the same, but bigger and better. The series is known for its challenging, demon focused RPG battles, where the player can negotiate with and collect demons to fight alongside t
It’s not every day that the survival horror genre perfectly mixes with an RPG, but Chernobylite seems to attempt this with its wildly engaging premise. Players take on the role of a man searching through the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone and having to survive in this toxic area. As if that wasn’t enough, otherworldly threats have emerged on the scene, making surviving the environment, as radioactive as it is, an almost secondary conc
Despite its real-world setting, Kingdom Come: Deliverance uses a world-building technique similar to The Elder Scrolls series. It fleshes out its world with various lore books and stories that build upon the real-life history of Bohemia and the Holy Roman Emp
Diablo II: Resurrected certainly has the profile of a AAA release, but gamers who weren’t around for this premiere ARPG’s heyday may be tempted to pass it over in anticipation of Diablo 4 — needless to say, they’d be missing out. Diablo II’s core gameplay elements will largely be intact, barring the graphical overhaul and a few QOL additions that are sure to please both veteran fans and newcom
It might be hard to keep track of exactly what's expected to launch this year, but there's a lot to be looking forward to, even if some things might escape fans' radars the first time around. With notable role-playing titles coming out on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC, here are all the best role-playing games to keep an eye out for in 2
Diving into a good RPG for a gamer is much like committing oneself to a good book. The idea is for players to lose themselves in these deep worlds of fantasy, science fiction, and even the modern-day. Perhaps more than any other genre, the RPG features deep and meaningful worlds with characters that can become personal to the pla
Care of Magical Creatures is actually quite a vital skill to pick up. The Wizarding World is completely packed full of dangerous and adorable animals, which may just save the day when a student needs them most . Magical Creatures come in all shapes and si
It was recently announced that Hogwarts Legacy beasts Legacy would have the option to create transgender characters as part of their customization options. This is a welcome move and one that should be part of the many options available in the g
Being able to possess a variety of objects that are collected throughout the game and are genuinely useable would be a fun way for players to be able to interact with the environment. Having these objects could also unlock new things about the cas
I don’t look down on family members or oblivious swathes of the general public for still adoring Harry Potter and what it all means to them, some just aren’t tuned into the cultural landscape or Rowling’s rotten views, and it isn’t required for them to be at all. But when becoming aware of how she feels about trans people, and how time and time again she continues to double down on our erasure, it’s time for you to take notice. It’s like we’re queer boogeyman eager to break society apart and reform it in our own twisted image. We aren’t, we just want to be happy, and recognised as who we are without the dangers that come with such a struggle.
Magical artifacts are another significant aspect of the Wizarding World. Harry Potter is known for using his Invisibility Cloak and Marauders Map to make his way through Hogwarts. Dumbledore is proud of his Deluminator, while the Weasley twins have all manner of prank and joke parapherna
