Bloodstained is the most recent Metroidvania on this list as of 2019. It falls more in line with the „vania“ part of the equation as it is truly emulating Castlevania from the look, RPG elements, castle, and so on. It’s not as ominous as Hollow Knight and it falls on the easier side if one grinds enough. That said it does have a fun gameplay loop filled with lots of secrets to uncover while exploring the castle’s dep
Sundered is very similar in design to Dead Cells , but it has the art aesthetic of Hollow Knight . To be clear, it’s a roguelike with Metroidvania elements, but it is one big open maze that can be tackled in a number of ways. It also has a pretty robust skill tree which is necessary because this game is going to kick the player in the behind. That is to say, Hollowknightportal.Com expect some heavy grind
Like Hollow Knight , Guacamelee has a huge focus on combat. You will explore the interconnected world like any Metroidvania i.e. collect new powers to explore new paths, get new health upgrades, and so forth. What makes it different is the wrestling focused in combat with tons of moves to perform and master. The big plus is that it offers co-op. Both this and the sequel are worth checking
Gameplay in Blasphemous follows in the footsteps of the Castlevania series. The Penitent One is armed with both sword and spell, and uses them to overcome all manner of monstrosities. As a result, players must learn the attack patterns of each new horror in order to smite it. The unpleasantly-named Bile Flasks take the role of healing items, and The Penitent One will respawn at the last checkpoint if his health is fully deple
Dead Cells has never gotten the credit it deserves, but's an incredibly fast paced game with some of the best combat in the genre. On its own merit, Dead Cells is a roguelike unlike any other and a must-play for anyone even remotely interested in 2D Soulsli
Hollow Knight launched in 2017 and was praised, but it wouldn't be until it hit the Nintendo Switch after the PC release that the fandom really exploded. From the open-ended world to the stylish art to the Metroidvania gameplay, everything hooked players in. They need and want m
Both of the Ori games have been particularly praised for their beautiful artwork and atmospheric audio. While the tone of the games might not be quite as dark as Hollow Knight 's, Ori's forest-home possess a melancholy, haunting beauty. The various twisted creatures that Ori must contend against are more classic Halloween fare. Some particular standouts are Shriek the insane, half-petrified owl, and Mora the spore-corrupted spider qu
There have been rumors that a Bloodborne 2 is in the works; we are hoping such claims are justified. The gothic nature of Bloodborne makes it an excellent addition to the Soulsborne series. It's characterized by faster, more aggressive combat, focusing around the usage of guns to stun enemies by interrupting their atta
This may have the least to do with Hollow Knight , but it's somewhat relevant. The reason it made it on the list is because it has excellent animations for a sprite-based game. It’s a shooter in the vein of a 2D Borderlands mixed with Monster Hunt
In 2008, J.J. Abrams' science fiction drama Fringe premiered on FOX to stellar ratings, earning it a spot as the fifth most watched show of the week. Over the next five seasons while on the air, the series would go on to gain a cult following and turned its stars into bonafide genre celebrities. But the greatest of the main three to benefit from all the fame might have to be Australian actor John Noble, who until then was mainly known for his supporting part in The Lord of the Rin
Gameplay is as open as a Soulsborne title , with players able to pick up a variety of weapons and magical attacks. The game also implements many classic RPG elements, such as classes, backgrounds, and skill trees. For those players who don't want to face the horrors alone, it's possible to play with local co-op. For those who want to be a fresh terror for their friends, there's a versus mode
There's no denying that Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is the definitive game to play for anyone who wants to scratch their Soulsborne itch. The deflection mechanic, stealth, ninja tools, and a host of other combat moves have contributed to Sekiro being perhaps the most dynamic From Software game around , with entire combat scenarios completely altered at the drop of a hat with the player's acti
As for where Noble might show up next, the actor says he's open to „whatever comes along.“ While he does enjoy voice over work, he doesn't see it as his direction in life. Noble's optimist outlook has clearly worked for him so far, and so he gives one parting thought at the end of the interview: „You just gotta, somehow or other, put one foot in front of the other. And hope can spring eternal. If you keep that attitude, who knows what doors will op

Both games I was immensely looking forward to and with both I hit the same wall. No matter how often I tried playing, every attempt to pick up the controller was met with my mind split between disinterest and intrigue. It becomes hard to tell if the brain is responding in a Pavlovian way for the shiny new toy or there is actual enthusiasm buried under the loss of focus for both games. Luckily it was the latter. There are, of course, times where a game is just not for you, but it was a relief knowing it was just a matter of time.
