The new ship comes with two masts and two cannons on each side. It is designed for an optimal crew of three people, so even if you cannot find a fourth friend to conquer the seas with, you can still have a viable competitive crew. Honestly, I do believe that this is one of the best new features we've seen from Rare since lau
Stories of the Kraken have existed as far back as E3 2016, but so far Rare has mostly managed to keep it hidden from the public. Alongside the dynamic storms that can hit players at any time , the Kraken is less of a boss and more of a thing in the game that can appear out of nowhere. The first sign of a Kraken is an inky mess in the water, but when and how it strikes is designed to be different each time and highly replayable. Unfortunately for players, it won't be easy as the creature is capable of picking up and tossing players in addition to damaging a ship or completely wrapping it up. Players may even find the destroyed remains of ships as well, presenting an opportunity to loot valuable che
Upon realizing how everything works, you'll begin to notice just how gorgeous Sea of Thieves is. It is one of the most beautiful games I have ever seen. The best word to describe the first sunset and sunrise I saw is breathtaking. The way the sun reflects off the incredibly animated ocean is a technical feat. It is the best looking water I have seen in a video game. This, in conjunction with its cartoon-style player models and environments, makes the tedium of the quests somewhat beara
Elsewhere in the DLC, there’s going to be a new month-long campaign centered around this new area, with new Cargo Run quests at the Merchant’s Alliance (alongside lots of other things, changing on a week-by-week basis). Think of them as Monster Hunter ’s egg-carrying quests, only with a whole lot more oc
There is nothing wrong with having a sense of discovery. In fact, if done effectively, I think that sort of gameplay design would be great, especially in a game like Sea of Thieves . However, it goes way too far in that direction, to the point where you are completely at a loss in the first hour of play
As you begin your journey to become a pirate legend, you'll first have to select a pirate to represent you throughout your swashbuckling antics. Eight different variations of the avatar will appear on-screen that you can choose from. If you're not quite sure if you want to commit to one of the pirates, you can mark them as a favorite so they do not disappear when you decide to refresh the gr
The promise of a mythical creature lurking somewhere out in the massive, sprawling ocean of Sea of Thieves , capable of pulling down boats is no doubt a thrilling prospect for many players. While the closed beta seems to have held a lot of content back, another recent datamine seems to indicate that the full game will have plenty more for prospective pirates to do. While new factions have already been revealed, new information reveals that the game will contain plenty of animals as well as a wider variety of creatures and enemies to fight. Players will likely be able to customize their ships with new flags, sails, and much more, as well as find new weapons, instruments, and food as w
Sea of Thieves has been boggling us for the past few months leading up to its release. After all, this pirate-themed MMO title is meant to be one of the year's biggest games, but yet little of us here at HG showed any real enthusiasm for it. And it's not that it didn't look fun, with its swashbuckling adventures, naval combat and even the ability to even shoot yourself out of a cannon. But there was just always something that always seemed to be holding it back. And after having spent some time with the game, it's not hard to see what that something is, because while there is fun to be had, this game feels a bit more like a pond than a sea.
Ship customization right now offers plenty of options. However, players are still locked to choosing from predefined sails, hulls, and figureheads. While I can certainly understand why Rare has gone this way instead of allowing people to freely design their own, certain aspects of ship customization could be expanded on. Let’s take the flags, for exam
Fans of Rare are excitedly awaiting the anniversary of what might be the studio's most iconic franchise, Banjo-Kazooie . Originally launching on Nintendo 64 in 1998, June 29 will mark the 20th anniversary of the hugely popular 3D platforming game. Fans will be absolutely celebrating, but the question is whether Rare will be too, and what the studio has planned. Players of Rare's newest game, Sea of Thieves , think they might have an idea what's in st
Once you do get your sea legs, there is some semblance of a progression system. There are three different factions in the world, each with its own unique objective. The Gold Hoarders will give you the task of finding treasure chests that are marked on a map; the Order of Souls are bounty missions that ask you to defeat named undead pirates; the Merchant Alliance will give you a list of livestock to retrieve that you must deliver to a specific outpost by a certain date. Completing these tasks will garner reputation with each faction and gold for each piece of treasure you turn in. This will allow you to purchase weapons, clothing, and accessories —all of which are seemingly cosmetic — from merchants found on the various outposts. There is also made a post „Mysterious Stranger“ at each outpost's tavern that tasks you to build your rep with each faction to a specific le
