Their work is grounded in psychological theory and research, but it is applied in a legal context, which requires a deep understanding of both fields.

The Role of Clinical Forensic Psychologists

Expert Witness Testimony: Forensic psychologists may serve as expert witnesses in court cases, providing their professional opinions on psychological matters. Psychological Evaluations: Forensic psychologists conduct a variety of psychological assessments to inform legal decisions. In civil cases, they may assess emotional damages or the psychological impact of an event on an individual.

Consultation with Legal Professionals: Forensic psychologists often work closely with attorneys, providing insights that can shape legal strategies. They may help attorneys understand the psychological background of clients or witnesses, or assist in jury selection by profiling potential jurors.

Treatment and Rehabilitation: In addition to their evaluative roles, forensic psychologists may also provide treatment to individuals involved in the legal system. This can include therapy for offenders aimed at reducing recidivism or support for victims coping with trauma.
