| Soulslike fans have been eagerly anticipating the upcoming Black Myth: Wukong for just over 4 years, but that wait is finally nearing its end as the game's August release date fast approaches. Taking inspiration from the Classical 16th Century Chinese novel Journey to the West , Black Myth: Wukong puts players in the shoes of The Monkey King himself, Sun Wukong, as he takes on all manner of creatures from Eastern mythology. One of the questions players have had about the game during its long development was whether the title would be receiving a dedicated physical release, and it appears that players will indeed have the option of picking up a physical copy, albeit with a few cave | August 2024 will feature a steady stream of game releases, with August 8 and 29 standing out as particularly busy days . Though players will be able to pick up a physical box and receive all the pre-order bonuses that are available as part of each tier of the game's release, none of the editions will include a disc, instead opting for a download code. According to the developer, this was done to scale back the cost of getting physical copies into players' hands, and there are still some worthwhile bonuses that make pre-ordering the game an exciting proposit | Gamescom 2023's Black Myth: Wukong coverage could also offer the first glimpse of how the character progression works, as there has been no indication of a skill tree or leveling up as yet. This is another key aspect of the genre and is one that the game needs to get right in order to be a success. Black Myth: Wukong still has a ways to go before its release, but for fans who can't wait that long, the Soulslike sub-genre seems to constantly produce other games to get excited ab |

The reason why players will need this ability is unclear, so it isn't known exactly how the mechanic will be put to use. Game Science must ensure it serves a clear purpose, becoming a crucial part of the gameplay to be used at key moments, rather than a superficial gimm |

| Black Myth: Wukong initially seemed too good to be true. Its beautiful graphics, fluid animations, and fast-paced gameplay were so impressive that a groundswell formed on social media, and the title jumped to the top of many gamers’ most anticipated lists. Of course, those thoughts of the game being just a tech demo lingered, but over time, developer Game Science showed more of Black Myth: Wukong and it became clear the title was very real. Now, having played the game for a few hours, I’m happy to report that, based on this first hands-on, Black Myth: Wukong is one to watch out | No title encapsulates this devotion better than the PS4-exclusive Bloodborne . The grim, Lovecraftian world of Yharnam in which the game is set is cited by many as the pinnacle of world design, and the game's enemy designs are held in equally high regard. The design of bosses such as the gruesome mutation known as the Orphan of Kos and the human/horse hybrid Ludwig has helped Bloodborne gain its reputation, but it's in the care and attention given to standard enemies, not just bosses, that the game really excels. Each one is unique, posing the player a different challenge, and almost all of them are visually striking in their appeara |

Further, Black Myth: Wukong 's additional in-game content available as part of the Digital Deluxe Edition is consistent across all versions, with the physical Deluxe and Collector's Editions set apart by the collectibles they include rather than any additional in-game bonu | WoW: The War Within arrives on PC at the end of August and will offer a major expansion to the beloved World of Warcraft universe. | | Black Myth: Wukong has been built on the impressive Unreal Engine 5 , and the result is a game that looks well and truly next-gen. One encounter in the heavy snow pits the Monkey King against the dangerous, fast-moving Macaque Chief boss. As the protagonist moves quickly around the terrain, the surrounding snow begins to accumulate in noticeable piles. Another boss fight against the Tiger Vanguard takes place partially in the water, which acts incredibly naturally as the fight thrashes around it. These are subtle but noticeable examples of Unreal Engine 5's power and Gamescom 2023 could well show off more of this in full eff |

| Fans of Soulslikes are undoubtedly eating well at the moment. Elden Ring 's DLC is right around the corner, and there is a slew of upcoming releases that will look to push the boundaries of the action-RPG soulslike sub-genre over the coming months. One of these, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers , seems to take specific inspiration from the likes of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice , and will no doubt be looking to differentiate itself to avoid direct comparisons with 2019's Game of the Year. The game is described as a dark retelling of the Ming Dynasty period and will feature real historical characters. With a tentative release window of 2025, developer Leenzee has plenty of time to establish some key differences for its debut ti | One of the biggest remaining questions in terms of the game's combat mechanics is whether the Monkey King will have access to weapons other than his staff. The staff itself seems incredibly versatile and is capable of changing its length and move set, depending on which stance the protagonist is in. While this already shows good variety, it would be highly unusual for a Soulslike not to offer any other choice of weapons , and for those who are drawn to the genre for its build variety, this could be a blow.
